A kulhar or kulhad, sometimes called a shikora, is a traditional handle-less clay cup from South Asia that is typically unpainted and unglazed, Kulhad is the glass shape vessel made from the clay soil used to drink tea, coffee, milk. The fertile clay soil is moulded into the glass, which is baked in the kiln. With a hot or cold beverage, the Kulhad absorbs some liquid and creates the distinct earthy flavour. The same phenomena is observed with the water, A kulhar (Hindi: कुल्हड़ and Urdu: کلہڑ) or kulhad, sometimes called a shikora, is a traditional handle-less clay cup from South Asia that is typically unpainted and unglazed, and meant to be disposable. The most interesting feature of kulhar is not being painted and that differentiates a kulhar from a terra-cotta cup.Kulhad is a cup that is made using clay or soil. This is usually used for serving tea/coffee. This was brought in use to replace the plastic cup in trains.Keep the Kulhad in the water bucket 30 minutes before serving hot coffee and tea in it. The extra soil from the Kulhad will be washed off, and the pores in the Kulhad will absorb the little water. Now you can use the Kulhad to serve hot tea and coffee.Kulhads are made of soil. Use of earthen kulhads is not an environmentally friendly decision because for making enough kulhads upper layer of fertile soil is used. Loss of fertile soil can make the land barren and unproductive that is, unfit for any agricultural activity.
