While a lot of users will suggest that 220 or 230 Volts are required for MIG welding, there are some that believe 240 Volts to be the right voltage level for this job. To be on the safe side, we will also recommend you use 240 Volts for MIG welding on a single-phase connection.To say that MIG welding safety is job one would be something of an understatement. This metal joining process reaches temperatures upwards of 3,000 degrees, and a single misstep can result in significant injuries. In addition, the arc itself can achieve temperatures exceeding 15,000 degrees.While a MIG welder will typically operate in DC mode, you'll also find DC used in many other forms of stick welding, including some TIG welders, especially when a TIG machine is being used to bond stainless steel.The most common gas used for MIG welding aluminum is 100% argon. This gas allows you to get into a spray transfer or pulsed spray transfer mode easily for aluminum due to its low ionization value. Another benefit of 100% argon gas is that it can also be used for TIG welding aluminum.
