What is Injection Moulding? Plastic injection moulding is the process of melting plastic pellets (thermosetting/ thermoplastic polymers) that once malleable enough, are injected at pressure into a mould cavity, which fills and solidifies to produce the final product. Injection is a process in which a thermoplastic polymer is heated above its melting point, resulting in the conversion of the solid polymer to a molten fluid with a reasonably low viscosity. This melt is mechanically forced, that is, injected, into a in the shape of the desired final object. Injection moulding can be performed with a variety of different materials including metals, glass, elastomers, confections and, most commonly, thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers. Materials can be combined to deliver different properties and effects for the finished parts. Consists of three main components: Screw motor drive. Reciprocating screw and barrel. Heaters, Thermocouple, Ring plunger.
