RTV silicone is a liquid silicone compound that cures at room temperature to form a flexible rubber. This can be either an Adhesive Sealant, Moulding Rubber or Electronic Encapsulant Potting Compound. The term RTV is means Room Temperature Vulcanising.RTV silicones' industrial applications include aviation, aerospace, consumer electronics, and microelectronics. Some aviation and aerospace product applications are cockpit instruments, engine electronics potting, and engine gasketing. RTV silicones are used for their ability to withstand mechanical and thermal stress.Room Temperature Vulcanizing means that the silicone solidifies at room temperature. There are two types of room temperature vulcanizing silicones: RTV-1 is a ready-to-use, one-component silicone. The material starts crosslinking when it comes into contact with atmospheric moisture.While JB Weld RTV silicone is ideal for permanent seals it can also be used in applications where repeated removal is necessary such as valve covers. The trick there is to apply the silicone and allow it to cure before installing the part.
