Sewerage ends at the entry to a sewage treatment plant or at the point of discharge into the environment. It is the system of pipes, chambers, manholes, etc.The major aim of wastewater treatment is to remove as much of the suspended solids as possible before the remaining water, called effluent, is discharged back to the environment. As solid material decays, it uses up oxygen, which is needed by the plants and animals living in the water.Technology like reverse osmosis systems, ultrafiltration systems, vacuum evaporators and filters, paper bed filters, solid bowl centrifuges, and tramp oil separators are used to both neutralize and remove impurities from the water.
