Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB) plants produce high-performance binder by blending bitumen with 8–12% rubber powder from recycled tires, enhancing road durability, elasticity, and heat resistance. These plants use high-shear mixing (typically 160°C–190°C) to create a consistent, homogeneous mixture that significantly reduces rutting and cracking on heavy-traffic roads. Key Components of a CRMB Plant Crumb Rubber Feeding System: Accurately doses rubber particles (often 30-mesh or < 4.75 mm). High-Shear Mixing Unit: The primary unit for blending rubber and bitumen, ensuring uniform dispersion. Reaction Vessel: A heated, agitated tank allowing the rubber to swell (react) within the bitumen. Bitumen Heating & Storage Tanks: Insulated tanks with thermic heaters maintaining optimal temperature. Production Process Heating: Base bitumen is heated to –. Blending: Crumb rubber is added and mixed at high speed. Reaction: The mixture is held in a reactor to allow the rubber to absorb oily components in the bitumen, creating a consistent blend.
