Product Details
ER409Nb is a solid, ferritic stainless steel welding wire classified by the AWS A5.9 standard, designed to weld similar 409 and 409Ti base metals, as well as carbon and other ferritic stainless steels. Its addition of niobium (Nb) ties up carbon to prevent detrimental chromium carbide formation, improving high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance. This filler metal is commonly used for fabricating parts like automotive exhaust systems and components exposed to moderately high temperatures. Key Characteristics Alloy Type:Ferritic stainless steel Classification:AWS ER409Nb Composition:Contains chromium (Cr) and niobium (Nb), with niobium reacting preferentially with carbon to form stable niobium carbides instead of chromium carbides. Microstructure:Promotes a fine-grained, ferritic microstructure. Properties:Offers improved high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance compared to standard 409 stainless steel.
