Stud welding is a process by which a metal stud, also referred to as a weld stud, is joined to a metal workpiece by heating both parts with an arc. A key factor that differentiates stud welding from other fastening processes is that the fastener is attached to the workpiece without marring the other side.: A fastener and ceramic ferrule are firmly placed against the work surface under spring tension. 2: Upon triggering, the weld gun automatically lifts the fastener from the base metal and initiates a controlled electric arc - which melts the end of the fastener and a portion of the base metal.The volume can then be calculated by multiplying the length of the weld by the area - ensuring that this length is also given in centimetres! Conventionally, the volume is often expressed in cubic centimetres (cu.cm). per metre so in this example the volume is 507 cu. cm/metre.Welding voltage primarily controls the arc length which is the distance between the molten weld pool and the wire filler metal at the point of melting within the arc.
