A water pump is a machine used to increase the pressure of water in order to move it from one point to another. Modern water pumps are used throughout the world to supply water for municipal, industrial, agricultural, and residential uses. Water pumps also are used to move wastewater in sewage treatment plants. The pump can handle solids up to 2.4 inches, and because it can run without water, the pump is ideally suited for areas like industrial locations, agricultural plots, construction sites, and other locales where sludge and sediment are a primary concern. Centrifugal pumps move fluid by using centrifugal force to generate velocity of the liquid. Fluid enters the pump through the suction nozzle, into the eye of the impeller. The impeller vanes catch the fluid and rotate it, both tangentially and radially until it exits the pump on the discharge side.
