Welded hydraulic cylinders have no tie rods. Instead, the barrel is welded directly to the end caps and the ports are welded to the barrel. The front rod gland is generally bolted or threaded into the cylinder barrel, which allows the piston rod assembly and the rod seals to be removed for service. Welding is used regularly in connection with hydraulic systems, for everything from repairing hydraulic cylinders to fabricating frames and supports. There are also a wide variety of welding processes that can be used, including arc welding, stick welding, and solid-state welding.
