What are common applications of ultrasonic transducers in industry
Ultrasonic transducers are used throughout industry for jobs that must leave the test piece intact. A pulse sent into metal, a pipe wall or a composite panel bounces back from cracks, thinning or corroded spots and reveals their position and size. The same echo principle gives exact clearance readings plus sees objects on conveyors or robot paths - paint colour, glass clarity or bright light do not affect the result. One or more matching layers are bonded to the crystal face - their acoustic impedance is chosen to let the largest possible part of the wave energy leave the transducer and enter the test piece. What is the principle of ultrasound transducer?
An ultrasonic transducer works because of the piezoelectric effect. A damping layer attached to the rear face of the element stops the element from ringing after the pulse ends - the pulse remains short. A backing block behind the element absorbs any leftover vibration. Because the device converts electricity to sound and sound back to electricity, it can sense position or structure without touching the target.
