Amada-type self-centering 1-V dies (often called Centerline or Self-Aligning dies) are designed to automatically align with the punch's center point. Unlike traditional multi-V blocks that require manual re-centering when flipped, these dies use a specific base and tang system to ensure the V-opening is always perfectly positioned. Key Features of Amada-Style Self-Centering Dies Centerline Consistency: The distance from the tang to the center of the V-groove is constant across the entire tool library. This allows for rapid tool changes without re-programming the backgauge or adjusting the die holder. Safety Tang: Most feature a "click" or safety tang that allows the die to be loaded and unloaded vertically or slid in from the side while remaining securely seated. Induction Hardening: High-quality versions, like those from Remitek Solutions or Mate Precision, are typically made from 42CrMo steel and induction-hardened on the V-shoulders to 50-55 HRC to prevent wear and "crowning." Why Choose 1-V over Multi-V?While a Multi-V die (like the 4-Way V-Die) is versatile, the Single-V Self-Centering die is preferred for high-precision CNC work because: Automation: The CNC controller knows exactly where the tool center is. Narrow Base: Allows for bending parts with return flanges that would hit the side of a wide Multi-V block. Speed: No "dialing in" the die after a tool swap.
