Most of the chewing gum made today is made using gum base, which includes a mixture of polymers, plasticisers and resins, and mixed together with food-grade softeners, preservatives, sweeteners, colours and flavourings. Medicated chewing gums (MCGs) represent a unique platform for drug delivery. They have been defined as solid single-dose preparations, which may contain more than one active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) with base consisting primarily of gum that has to be chewed for a certain period of time The production process to make chewing gum involves melting the gum base ingredients together, followed by mixing in the other ingredients. The mixture is then extruded, shaped, conditioned to achieve desired texture, cooled and eventually wrapped
