Iron removal plants can be based on different filtration media, depending on the iron and manganese concentration, the oxygen level, CO2 content and hardness of the water. Plant principle: First, air is injected in order to oxidize the iron. The oxidized iron will then precipitate on a sand filter.When water passes through the bed, the media attracts soluble ferrous iron and converts it to an insoluble state. That allows a filter to capture the iron precipitate, leaving the water iron-free, Common methods used for iron removal includes chemical precipitation, coagulation-flocculation, flotation, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, electrochemical treatment techniques like electrodialysis, membrane electrolysis, electrochemical precipitation, electroextraction.Iron is generally removed from groundwater by the process of aeration or chemical oxidation followed by rapid sand filtration, In plants, iron is also required for photosynthesis and chlorophyll synthesis.
