How a Hemming Tool Works (The 2-Step Process) Stage 1 (Pre-bend): The punch and die create an acute angle (usually 30° or 45°) in the sheet metal. Stage 2 (Flattening): The sheet is placed between two flat surfaces of the tool (the "flattening" area), and the press brake applies pressure to squash the pre-bend flat against the main sheet. Technical Specifications Material: Forged 42CrMo or En31 alloy steel. Hardness: Induction hardened to 50–60 HRC to withstand the high pressure of flattening. Capacity: Typically designed for sheet thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 2.0 mm (Mild Steel). Compatibility: Available in Trumpf/Wila, Amada/European, and American styles.
