Die Head
A die head is a threading die that is used in the high volume production of threaded components. Die heads are commonly used on lathes, turret lathes, screw machines and CNC lathes. They may be used for either cutting a thread or rolling a thread. They may also be used for internal or external thread cutting. Coventry die heads and copies thereof (Rubometric, OSG etc) are the most commonly used thread cutting die heads. They are reliable, hard wearing, simple to set and use, and can be used on manual or automatic ( and CNC) machinery. This means that once you have cut your thread, instead of having to reverse the lathe and wind your one-piece die and holder back off again, you simply yank that handle on the Coventry head and the four toothed cutting sections snap outwards, clearing the job and allowing the carriage to be wound back toward.
