Superior Strength: Provides higher as-welded tensile strengths than 5356, especially for alloys like 5083. Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Offers great resistance to seawater, making it perfect for marine environments. Good Toughness: Provides high fracture toughness for impact resistance. Anodizes White: Results in a white finish when anodized, offering good color matching. Non-Heat Treatable: It's a non-heat-treatable alloy. Common Applications: Marine Structures: Ships, offshore platforms, and other marine components. Cryogenic Equipment: Storage tanks and piping for low-temperature applications. Transportation: Railcars and automotive structures. Pressure Vessels: Unfired pressure vessels. Welding Suitability: Welds itself and other high-magnesium alloys like 5083, 5086, 5456, 5052, and 5652. Used for GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) processes. Specifications & Standards: ANSI/AWS: ER/R 5183.
