Q. How is Besan manufactured?
A.Bengal gram specifically chana dal, is the source for besan production. Production begins as raw Bengal gram is cleared of soil, rocks along with other unwanted materials. After cleaning the gram undergoes a soaking and drying procedure to make outer skin separation easier - a dehusking process removes this skin. The now-dehusked gram is processed again to eliminate any residual husk or unwanted matter. A powerful machine reduces the clean gram into a flour-like substance. This substance goes through sifting to isolate fine besan and remove larger pieces. These larger pieces are ground again to increase the amount of usable product. The finished besan goes into bags or pouches for later sale. A careful method involving cleaning, conditioning, grinding as well as packaging, develops a very usable besan applicable in several cooking purposes.
