Whether you should leave the motor running using a tire inflator depends depend on the type of inflator you use and the state of the battery in your car.   Usually referred to as the cigarette lighter socket, most portable tire inflators plug into the vehicle&#x27;s 12V power outlet.  This power outlet only turns on when the engine of the car runs or, at least, the ignition switch is turned on.   Particularly in cases of an old or weak automobile battery, using the inflator with the engine off could cause fast battery depletion.   This would so make later on starting the car difficult.  This is the reason it is usually advised to leave the engine idle while running a tire inflation taking power from the output of the car.   Idling the engine maintains battery charge and helps to prevent its running out during inflation.   You do not have to require the engine idling, however, if you have a cordless tire inflator with its own rechargeable battery since the inflator does not rely on anything else.   If your tire inflator is plugged into the power outlet of the vehicle, it is basically a good idea to leave the engine on to prevent battery drain.   The engine in cordless or battery-powered inflators isn&#x27;t running.   Always refer to the directions that accompany your inflator for correct and safe use.
